Synopsis: Sequel to “Bloody River”.
ALLMAN, a Navy SEAL alias The Mud Fox is AWOL (away without leave),
wounded and holed up in a small village in the Mekong Delta.
He has become famous for single handedly hitting the Viet Cong in
unorthodox ways, seeking vengeance for the death of his Lieutenant, Al
Cattaglini, which was due to his negligence.
As a result, he is number one on the Viet Cong hit list. Allman is
reckless, has a death wish, and takes bizarre risks.
Viet Cong discover his presence, attack the village.
Allman escapes onto a river junk with the help of ABENDIGO, an Army
Special Forces Sergeant who is also on the run, and HARRY a Naval Officer who
played football with Allman in high school.
In the past year, Allman saved the Admiral’s son from a Viet Cong
prison and has become a hero to the Vietnamese people. Harry is ordered to
“bring him in”, but Allman slips away.
Harry invents a story that Allman is on a “special mission” that he gave
him and that AWOL is a “cover story”.
Allman is petitioned by a Province Chief to go to the Nam Cam
Peninsula at the southern tip of Viet Nam to help defeat an enemy operation led
by the notorious Cobra De Mer. He
and Abendigo go to Nam Cam where Abendigo recruits a number of “Mud Guerillas”
(Emgees) to fight the Cong. Abendigo wants Allman to lead the Emgees, but he
“works alone”.
Allman rescues BRENDA, A Red Cross Lady with a questionable
background, and for the first time in his life, falls in love.
Meanwhile, the Navy enlists the aid of a famous Special Operations Agent
known as “The Vulture” to hunt down Allman.
Allman is assaulted by Vulture and a Vit Cong Assassin, Tach the Knife.
Allman, Abendigo and the Emgees are successful in destroying
facilities that support Viet Cong seaborne supply routes. Cobra De Mer does
everything possible to stop the, to little avail.
The Navy plans to build a barge base in the river at Nam am, dubbed SEA
FLOAT. Cobra De Mer brings in heavy
guns to sink SEA FLOAT before it can be anchored in the river.
Who is Cobra De Mer?
And, how can the Mud Fox and Harry spoil Viet Cong plans to sink SEA FLOAT? In a
smashing finale, these questions are answered and we find out if Allman’s death
wish comes true.
Locations: Thirty-six Characters: Six Primary, Eight Secondary,
Seventeen Minor
Coverage: (On the book that the screenplay is based on) Reads
like a Tom Clancy novel. I was one of those reckless souls who patrolled the
Vietnam rivers on Swift Boats. The story is fast paced with unexpected
turns--never a dull moment. The characters and locales are really believable. If
you haven't had the hair on the back of your neck stand out straight lately,
give this story a try -- you'll like it a lot! Highly recommended. Can't wait
for the movie. H.F. Amerau, Coastal
Division 13 (Swift Boats).
A
quick read, The Mud Fox is a fast paced, original story based on
the novel “The Mud Fox” that documents true events that occurred during the
Vietnam War. The writer lived those events.
