When the Playbook Fails,

Faith Kicks In

Introducing ZEE BEES (feature, 110 pages) for your consideration:

Inspired by a true story -- amidst the pressures of adolescence a determined young athlete and his tough yet compassionate coach develop spiritual faith as they lead their football team through adversity, anchored by family and community, to win a championship, reinforcing that football trains you for the hard knocks of life.

My name is Captain Robert Carney Powers, U.S. Navy (Ret.). I am the writer of Zee Bees. In the fall of 1954, I played center for a high school football team legendary in our community—unbeaten, untied, and unscored upon. We trained hard under a dynamic Coach who believed in tough love and teamwork. That experience prepared me for the Naval Academy and a life as a naval officer, serving around the world in demanding environments. My classmate, Captain Robert E. Osmon, U.S. Navy (Ret.), who wrote the book Zee Bees, had a similar path in the Navy’s Supply Corps.

----------

SYNOPSIS: Zee Bees chronicles the spiritual and physical journey of Bob Osmon (Moose), a high school football player facing both personal and family hardships, and his coach, Sarge—a retired Marine battling battlefield trauma and terminal illness. As the season unfolds, their bond and faith deepen, leading their team and town on a powerful quest for redemption and unity, redefining courage and victory far beyond the field.

The story begins on a festive summer day at the Zion-Benton First Practice Picnic, where the community gathers to cheer on their beloved Zee Bees. Mascots rally the crowd as the maroon-and-white team storms the field. Sarge Ellis runs practice with tough love. We meet Moose, the big-hearted team captain, and Luke Stride, the loyal quarterback. Sarge’s daughter June and her friends chat about dreams, dating, and pressure.

Then the challenges hit. A heart scare sidelines Moose, and his mother Beulah wrestles with the risk of letting him play. Moose falls for June, but Sarge forbids team members from dating her. Merc, the fast halfback, announces a family move, leaving a gap in the roster. And Sarge faces a painful choice: bring back Vic, the talented but troubled player he cut freshman year over an incident with June.

As the pressure mounts, Sarge and Moose hit their breaking points...then rise...together. Think Friday Night Lights meets Sixteen Candles; Remember the Titans meets American Graffiti; The Blind Side meets Rudy.

Zee Bees is not just another football story. It’s an emotional tale inspired by true events. It belongs to every coach, every player, every small-town community, every person who has found faith in their god, and those who’ve felt the sting of doubt and the rush of redemption.

I’ve included hyperlinks to everything you need to get a feel for

----------

I know what it feels like to win / lose, to lead / follow, to get it done -- whatever, to question all and  still find faith. I am uniquely qualified to tell this story, with the able consultation of Captain Osmon.

Biography: I graduated from Churchland High School in Norfolk County in 1956, and from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1960. Throughout my naval career, I served primarily aboard destroyers. I had the honor of commanding the guided missile destroyer USS CLAUDE V. RICKETTS and was awarded the Legion of Merit for leading rescue operations following a ship collision in the Mediterranean Sea in 1976.

Thank you for your time and consideration. May I send the script?
